Senior Consultants combined with Adjunct Professor / Associate Professor in medicine (Neurology)

Oslo University Hospital (OUH) is Norway’s largest hospital with over 20 000 employees. OUH is a local hospital for parts of Oslo's population. Furthermore, the hospital has regional functions for the inhabitants in the South-Eastern Norway Regional Health Authority, and it also has a large number of national functions. OUS is responsible for the majority of medical research and education of health personnel in Norway.

The University of Oslo (UiO) is Norway's largest research and educational institution with 28 000 students and 7 000 employees. Professional breadth and internationally recognized research environments make UiO an important contributor to society. The Faculty of Medicine was established in 1814 and is Norway's oldest medical faculty. The Faculty works for progressive education, research and dissemination for the patients’ and society’s best interests. It is organized into three basic units and has approximately 1 500 employees (about 1 000 work years) and about 2 000 students.

Two permanent positions as Senior Consultants (Neurology) are available at the Department of Neurology, Division of Clinical Neuroscience, Oslo University Hospital. The positions are affiliated with part-time positions as Adjunct Professor SKO 1013 /Associate Professor SKO 1011 (20 % position) in Medicine (Neurology) at the Institute of Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Oslo (UiO). It is required that the position holders attend both positions. Teaching and clinical activities may be scheduled within the different sections of Department of Neurology, currently located at Ullevål and Rikshospitalet.

Regarding the full-time clinical positions at OUH:
The Department of Neurology is the largest neurological department in Norway, serving both the population of Oslo as well as selected patient groups from the South-Eastern Health Region of Norway. The department has hospital wards, outpatient clinics and neurophysiology labs at two different locations, Ullevål Hospital and Rikshospitalet. The Ullevål site has main responsibility for stroke and general neurology, whereas Rikshospitalet has specialized functions for patient groups with movement disorders, cerebrovascular intervention, neuroinflammatory and psychosomatic disorders, as well as second opinion evaluations.

The Department is responsible for teaching medical students within the neurological disciplines. Research activity in the department is organized into defined research groups. The main research areas are within stroke and other cerebrovascular diseases, movement disorders and neurodegeneration, neuromuscular disorders, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, pain, neuropsychiatry and cognitive health. Researchers in the department have access to a well-equipped modern molecular laboratory facility, and there are established collaborations with core facilities and other research groups within the Hospital and at the University of Oslo.

The Senior Consultants are expected to take part in at least one of the clinical teams in the Department of Neurology, and are also expected to take part in doing on-calls.

Applicants should hold a strong scientific record in a clinical and/or basic neurological field, and the senior consultant position attached to the academic position will have a special role in supporting this topic both clinically and academically.

Qualification requirements – education and relevant personal qualities

•Senior Consultant positions: Requirement for Norwegian specialist training in neurology and broad clinical experience.
•Applicants must be clinically active and have wide experience in clinical and/or basic neurological research.
•Norwegian health authorities demand a board certification issued in Norway in order to work as a neurologist in Norway. Applicants without a Norwegian board certification must present in detail how they will get a Norwegian board certification in due time.
