It is a part of the teaching facility network of the Regional Health Authority of Western Norway.

The Department of Laboratory Medicine has a 100% vacant position for a resident doctor (LIS) in Immunology and Transfusion Medicine. Starting date is flexible through a mutual agreement. At the Laboratory for Immunology and Transfusion Medicine at Haugesund Hospital, we offer a structured training program for LIS doctors in immunology and transfusion medicine, with close supervision and clear guidelines for training completion. The training will be carried out in collaboration with the Department of Immunology and Transfusion Medicine in Bergen. Helse Fonna will ensure that the candidate can participate in formal on-call duties with a senior consultant available as backup.

Helse Fonna provides transfusion medicine services at the hospitals in Haugesund, Odda, and Stord. In total, approximately 5,000 blood donations are performed annually, with a corresponding number of transfusions. Around 8,000 blood group antibody screenings are conducted each year, and identification of detected antibodies takes place at the department in Haugesund. Autoimmune diagnostics are performed at Haugesund Hospital, where around 6,000 tests are carried out annually. We are accredited by the Norwegian Accreditation Authority and meet the highest requirements for quality and competence in accordance with NS-EN ISO standards. The department is located at the state-of-the-art facilities in a new hospital building since 2021.

Work description
  • Perform medical operational tasks within immunology and transfusion medicine
  • Provide professional advice to colleagues, clinicians, and management
  • Carry out blood group serological analyses
  • Perform routine tasks related to the production of blood products
Qualifications
You must have:
  • Norwegian authorization as a medical doctor.
  • Completed and approved LIS1 (or equivalent service).
  • Good Norwegian language skills, both written and oral (a Scandinavian language may be considered).
  • An interest in immunology and transfusion medicine, and motivation for structured specialization.
