Haematology in Helse Fonna is part of the Department of Medicine, located in the city of Haugesund. The doctors here are responsible for haematology at the smaller hospitals in Stord and Odda. The Department of Medicine, Haugesund hospital, also contains sections for cardiology, lunge medicine, endocrinology, gastroenterology, nephrology and geriatrics. Although a local hospital placed inn between the larger university hospitals in Stavanger and Bergen, almost 200 000 people have Helse Fonna as their primary hospital. All the major fields of medicine are represented, including oncology, at the hospital in Haugesund.
Haematology has an outpatient clinic, an oncology unit and an inpatient ward containing eight beds preferably for patients with haematological diseases.
In addition to dedicated nurses we currently have three positions for consultants/senior doctors, two positions for junior doctor/speciality trainee and 2-3 positions for junior doctors in foundation program. The section is an approved educational institution for haematology. It is a small, but growing professional environment and we have extensive collaboration with both Haukeland and Stavanger University Hospitals, as well as Oslo university hospital, Rikshospitalet. With the exception of stem cell transplant and high-dosage cytostatic treatments, we have responsibility for all haematological diseases and non-Hodgkin lymphoma in the region.
Due to increasing demands, an additional position for a senior doctor in haematology will be available. There will be opportunity for research combined with clinical work. Doctors employed in The Department of Medicine participate in the general internal medicine on-call team.
