Oslo University Hospital (OUH) is Norway’s largest hospital with over 20 000 employees and a budget of 20 billion NOK. It is a local hospital for parts of Oslo's population. It has a regional function for the inhabitants in the South-Eastern Norway Regional Health Authority, and it also has a large number of national functions. The Hospital is responsible for the majority of medical research and education of health personnel in Norway.

The University of Oslo (UiO) is Norway's largest research and educational institution with 28 000 students and 7 000 employees. Professional breadth and internationally recognized research environments make UiO an important contributor to society. The Faculty of Medicine was established in 1814 and is Norway's oldest medical faculty. The Faculty works for progressive education, research and dissemination for the patients’ and society’s best interests. It is organized into three basic units and has approximately 1 500 employees (about 1 000 work years) and about 2 000 students.

A permanent position as Senior Researcher 50% is available at Department of Ophthalmology, Division of Head, neck and reconstructive Surgery (HHA), Oslo University Hospital. The position is affiliated with a part time position as Professor II SKO 1013 (20 % position) in Medicine (Ophthalmology) at the Institute of Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Oslo (UiO). It is required that the position holder attends to both positions.

 

Arbeidsoppgaver

Regarding the 50% position at OUH:

Department of Ophthalmology has competence in all major fields of ophthalmology, including national, multi-regional and regional functions. The research activity in the Department is steadily increasing and the main research objective is to improve current treatment and to develop new therapeutic modalities for selected eye disorders. The focus is on 1) translational research - clinically relevant laboratory research and 2) clinical research with a large patient population and an interdisciplinary staff.

Short description of the position’s work tasks:

  • She or he should be able to establish a research group - or participate in further development of existing research groups within the Division, extend its research activities in novel and innovative directions, and establish research collaboration with other departments within the Institution as well as with external partners.
  • Applicants should have the ability to create an attractive and stimulating academic environment focusing on research and innovation and be able to attract medical students, PhD students and Postdocs as well as obtain research funding from external sources.
  • High quality of research, and publishing in peer-reviewed international journals is expected.

Kvalifikasjoner

Qualification requirements – education and relevant personal qualities:

  • Applicants must hold an MD and PhD, be a board-certified ophthalmologist and must document to be qualified as professor at the time of application.
  • The successful applicant is expected to have a strong research background in experimental and/or clinical ophthalmology as well as in research driven innovation.
  • The main position and the part-time position are combined. It is a requisition that the position holder has both positions.
