We seek an enthusiastic co-worker as PhD candidate in our research group (Neuroimmunology Research Group) in the Laboratory of Immunobiology. The position will be based at the Department for Molecular Medicine (Anatomy), University of Oslo (UiO).
The focus of our research is the immune response in the central nervous system in multiple sclerosis, in particular the role of B cells and immunoglobulins. The PhD candidate will take part in the dynamic and stimulating research environment at the Department of Molecular Medicine. The main supervisor will be Assoc. Professor/MD Andreas Lossius.
More about the position
The fellowship period is three years, and the position is funded by the Norwegian Research Council. The research fellow must take part in the Faculty’s approved PhD program and is expected to complete the project within the set fellowship period. The main purpose of the fellowship is research training leading to the successful completion of a PhD degree.
The applicant must, in collaboration with her/his supervisor, within three months after employment, have worked out a complete project description to be attached to the application for admission to the doctoral program.
Work tasks include
- Immunological techniques, such as advanced flow cytometry, fluorescence microscopy, ELISA, immunoprecipitation, proteomics and molecular biology techniques including protein expression
- Bioinformatic analysis
- Writing and revising scientific articles
The candidate should hold a master/diploma level degree or an MD. The suitable applicant has a master’s degree in the life sciences or similar or is a physician/MD who has interest in translational research. The Master’s thesis and the average grade point for courses included in the Master’s degree must have the grade B or better in the Norwegian educational system.
Training will be provided, but previous experience with laboratory work within molecular biology is an advantage. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are a prerequisite. In assessing applications, particular emphasis will be placed upon the academic and personal ability of the candidate to complete the project within the given time frame and write a PhD thesis under supervision.
