Oslo University Hospital is a highly specialized hospital in charge of extensive regional and local hospital assignments. As Scandinavia’s largest hospital, we carry out more than 1.2 million patient treatments each year. The hospital has a nationwide responsibility for a number of national and multi-regional assignments, and has several national centers of competence. Oslo University Hospital is responsible for approximately 50 percent of all medical and health care research conducted at Norwegian hospitals, and is a significant role player within the education of a large variety of health care personnel.
The vacant position is a Senior Consultant (100 % position) at the Department of Cardiology, Division of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Diseases, Oslo University Hospital. The senior
consultant position is combined with a 20 % position as professor of Medicine (Cardiology),
or associate professorship (depending on academic qualifications), at The Institute of Clinical
Medicine, University of Oslo.
The Division of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Medicine is composed of several departments. These include Institute for Experimental Medical Research, Institute for Surgical Research,
Department of Vascular Diseases, Department of Cardiology, Department of Respiratory
Medicine, Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Department of Logistics and
Outpatient Services. The departments are located at three different locations of Oslo
University Hospital (Rikshospitalet, Aker Hospital and Ullevål Hospital). All three locations
have extensive research facilities. Teaching of medical students takes place at all three
hospital locations. The departments conduct research in several major fields within
cardiovascular and pulmonary medicine, and include several internationally leading research
groups.
Arbeidsoppgaver
- The Department of Cardiology at Oslo University Hospital (OUS), Rikshospitalet provides treatment for adult patients with chronic and acute heart diseases. Patients are referred to the department from various other medical institutions. The department is one of the largest and most comprehensive heart practices in the Nordic countries. The department has special competence in the examination and treatment in heart failure, heart valve diseases, ischemic heart disease, heart rhythm disorders, cardiomyopathies, genetic heart diseases and congenital heart disease in adults. We are more than 50 specialized experts. The department has regional responsibility for the examination and treatment of heart diseases in South-Eastern Norway Regional Health Authority and national responsibility in heart transplants, pregnant with heart diseases and pulmonary hypertension. The department performs more than 4000 PCIs annually and 600 TAVI on two locations, 10000 echocardiograms and 1600 ablations. We have 13 laboratories for interventions, ablations, implantable devices and biopsies. We have one ordinary ward and one CCU. Many colleagues are affiliated in research groups, with several ph.d. students ongoing with research projects. The department has one ongoing Centre for Research Based Innovation – ProCardio – funded by the Research Council of Norway. In addition to the vacant position, the Department of Cardiology has one Professor I position, one Professor II position, one Associated Professor II positions and one Lecturer. The educational duties includes ward rounds and practical and theoretical training of medical students during their 3rd and 6th years at medical school. There are 52 Senior Consultant positions at the Department and 19 doctors in training. The applicant is expected to take a leading position clinically as well as scientifically within one or more of the sections’ fields of expertise.

- The applicant must hold an MD and must possess a Norwegian specialist accreditation in internal medicine and cardiology
- The applicant should have broad clinical experience within the fields of cardiology

- Personal qualifications of the applicant, including documented collaborative skills,
will be important.
- Patient management involves empathetic communication skills at a high level towards
patients and their families.
- Documented language skills in Norwegian or a compatible Scandinavian language is
required.
